COMPETITION AND SAFETY COMBINED INTO ONE GOOD TIME!!!
In 2006 RTR power boats had no place to race. In most cases the RTR power boat was classified as a cheap toy, or a wanna be model power boat not worthy of competing in any sanctioned or national model power boat events. With comments like "Whats that little boat gonna be when it grows up?" In short not many took these awesome power boats serious. But the owners of these RTR boats had a different idea.
In 2006 a group of RTR guys said we want a place to race and said it loud. With no rules or racing classes in either IMPBA or NAMBA, making a place for RTR would have to be earned, because asking two well established boating associations to open their doors to a new class was something that many opposed. Tempers and attitude rose from the deepest parts of all the existing boating forums. Myths were spread like a virus, and then you had these guys fighting for rank, wanting to only be part of what they love. R/C power boating. With all the forum jabber this is how RTR zone was born. Five guys from across America came together to build this place called RTR Zone where you learn, share, and race your RTR powerboat.
After many heated topics and big what if discussions. The RTR class was born in the IMPBA with a simple set of rules for stock and modified class RTR. The first set of rules were composed by Kelly Miller and Chuck Gardnier. After the composed rules were in place, the first IMPBA recorded RTR race was in Wichita, Ks hosted by WRCPBC "Wichita R/C Power Boat Club". This RTR race "Splash On The Prairie" was put into place by TLR's owner James Barringer, Mike Ecton, Jerry Dunlap "Miss Vegas RTR Designer" and Kelly Miller a member to WRCPBC. With the support of WRCPBC "Splash On The Prairie" set the course for what was to come in RTR racing. The following year, Splash was double it's size and held the biggest class out of all boats entered.
After Splash many clubs followed suit. Supporting RTR classes and learning that RTR is easiest way for new boaters to get involved. By inviting RTR classes into the two main boating associations, membership has risen in both associations. Creating a new breed of racers, filling clubs with new members and making districts grow.
In 2007 NAMBA took the leap of faith and ask for RTR to show their faces in Florida. The argument was they had offered RTR class, but no RTR's were registering at NAMBA events, so there was no reason to offer the classes. With this open challenge to show we want to race, Twisted Liquid, Robert Romero, the members of RTR Zone, and Ron Ratoff "District #3 Director" who laid out the welcome mat. Put together the first RTR race in Broward Co. Florida. Today RTR racing is growing at the speed of light in District #3 NAMBA. Both associations have gave RTR power boats a place to race, compete and take rank. With the sponsoring of RTR events from the companies who produce RTR products like Aquacraft Models, Twisted Liquid Racing. RTR has made its place in both associations. In 2008 IMPBA plans to hold a RTR race in the home of the association, Huntsville, AL. Sponsored by a local Huntsville hobby store and other RTR vendors. At the same time NAMBA has made RTR part of the High Points Series in District #3 for 2008. Not to mention other districts through out America are showing planned RTR events for 2008. Guaranteeing RTR a place to race and giving new boaters a welcome sign, that says join us.
Below you will find events that are posted on the Zone and the IMPBA and NAMBA websites. If you got a RTR we suggest you boat right and boat safe, by joining one of these power boating associations. Safe boating is a must if we plan to keep boating forever.
